31st January

Y6 went on their visit to the Bradford Science and Media museum as part of the Inventors and Inventions topic.  Here they researched the history of communication and inventions throughout time.  They looked at how media and computers have developed over the years.  One of the best parts of the visit was our time in the IMAX cinema where we watched a film about Apollo 11 and the space race.

21st November

Recently half the year 6 children took part in the LEPP Trust football tournament at High 5 soccer pitches in Seacroft.  All 3 of our teams played incredibly well and represented the school brilliantly.

Team C for Beechwood came top of their mini league as they finished the tournament undefeated!  Well done Team C!
 

Day 1 - The Journey

We had a very early start this morning and spent a lot of time on a coach. However, we all enjoyed the ferry crossing from England to France. We had a lovely view of the white cliffs of Dover as we departed too! After another coach journey, we arrived at our hotel exhausted, excited and looking forward to our time in Paris.

Day 2

After breakfast, we visited a traditional French market to practice our French and buy our lunch. Then we went on a river cruise on the Seine. We saw lots of famous landmarks, including the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower. Later on, we admired lots of impressionist art in the Museé D'Orsay and sketched some of our favourite pieces. After tea, we went on a night tour of Paris where we saw the Eiffel Tower twinkling. It was beautiful.

Day 3

Today we travelled outside of Paris to the Palace of Versailles. The Palace was breathtaking! It was massive (even bigger than Buckingham palace in London.) Then we walked around the gardens, which had ornate and very beautiful fountains. 

After a short journey back to Paris, we saw many great masterpieces in the Louvre, including a 4,000 year old Egyptian sculpture (The Seated Scribe) and the Mona Lisa.

Day 4

It's our last day in Paris. This morning we went to the Conciergerie, which became a prison during the French Revolution. It was there where more than 40,000 people were imprisoned in tiny cells and sentenced to execution. This included Robespierre and infamously, Marie Antoinette. We then walked to the top of the Pompidou Centre, a beautifully designed building, where we were greeted by stunning views of Paris. After this, many of us faced our fears and went up the Eiffel Tower. The Parisian skyline was amazing! It's been a fantastic trip and we have loads to share with you when we return home tomorrow.

4th October 

We are just over half way into this half term and the children have made an impressive start to Y6. They are all thoroughly enjoying our France TSU and have been writing some fantastic stories based on Les Miserable. We have particularly enjoyed the drama aspect using various techniques such as conscience alley and hot seating to really get inside the characters minds. 
We have a visit to BYA coming up on Thursday 17th October where we participate in an afternoon of French. This will include activities such as: food tasting, learning new phrases, singing songs and practicing our French with some of the languages students at BYA.   

Please remember that Maths homework is given out on a Thursday and should be returned the following Thursday. Green reading records are collected in each Friday morning and checked, the children should be reading at least 3 x per week at home and spellings are given every Monday for a test on Friday morning.
