Year 5 Class 12
9th October
This week, Class 12 have been working hard to develop their debating skills. They have begun writing arguments both for and against the education of all children, imagining they were living in the 1870s when the Forster Education Act was introduced. As part of our preparations for Black History Month, pupils have also been learning about the lives and achievements of Black Victorians ahead of our class assembly next Tuesday. Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend the assembly at 9:00am, followed by an opportunity to view some of the children's work afterwards. We look forward to seeing you there!

Year 5 have enjoyed two exciting Victorian-themed workshops this week. Storyteller and historian Matthew Bellwood helped pupils explore Victorian leisure activities, including popular toys, entertainments and traditional parlour games. They also took part in a workshop led by The National Archives, investigating the lives of Black Victorians through historical documents. Pupils developed their historical enquiry skills while learning about migration, identity, resilience and the importance of uncovering and celebrating often-overlooked “hidden histories”.
Well done to Rosie, Siraaj and Kingsley our certificate winners this week.

Class 12 have made an excellent start to the year. This week we began our work on Victorians, with our launch lesson and many children showed how well they remembered the history that they have learnt in previous years. We also began our work on the famous Victorian novel, Oliver Twist.
Remember, spellings will be sent home each week and pupils can practice them on Spelling Shed. Maths homework is to practice Times Tables Rockstars for ten minutes a day!
