Welcome to Nursery

At Beechwood Primary, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a nurturing and stimulating environment where children from the age of three to the end of their Reception year can thrive, explore and develop a lifelong love of learning. Our EYFS curriculum follows the statutory framework and is carefully designed to support every child’s individual development through a balance of child-initiated play, adult-led learning and enriching real-life experiences.

The EYFS curriculum is built around the seven areas of learning and development: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. Through a flexible curriculum that responds to children’s interests, needs and stages of development, we create meaningful learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors.

We believe that children learn best through active exploration and play. As highlighted in the EYFS statutory framework, “Play is essential for children’s development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, think about problems and relate to others.” Our indoor and outdoor provision is carefully planned to encourage curiosity, creativity, independence and resilience, while also supporting our school’s commitment to sustainability and climate awareness.

We recognise that parents and carers are children’s first educators and value the importance of strong partnerships between home and school. The EYFS framework states that “Children learn and develop well when there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.” We work closely with families to ensure every child feels happy, secure and supported throughout their early years journey.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to take part in Stay and Play sessions, workshops, celebrations and assemblies throughout the year, helping to strengthen the connection between home and school learning. We regularly share children’s achievements and next steps and at the end of Reception parents receive their child’s EYFS Profile celebrating their progress and development across all areas of learning.
