Phonics Home Learning

We had an amazing time in York when we visited The Chocolate Story. The children went on a food shop treasure hunt around the streets of York. They did some research in a traditional sweet shop as part of their history outcome. Then they learnt about the history of chocolate, chocolate in York and how to make chocolate in The Chocolate Story. They ate chocolate in every room of the tour and then they made their very own chocolate lolly. 

6th March

We had an amazing time on our World Book Day. The children were inspired to write by our visiting author, Phil Earle. We did lots of reading activities and Peter won the prize for the best costume in class 4.

The children did some amazing art based on fish. Please ask them about it.

28th February

The children explored the snow as part of our science work all about the different seasons. They had a brilliant time!

14th February

A group of children chose to research Italian food. They made a map of Italy from pasta, created an amazing poster and went to make pizzas at Gino D'Campos!

This group of children decided to have a pop up British tea party as part of their geography final outcome. They made food from Northern Ireland and Wales and sampled a Victoria sponge and Tunnock's teacakes. They painted a map and they are all starting to locate the four countries that make up the United Kingdom.

  

A group of children went to visit Trinity kitchen so they could learn more about food around the world. They visited a sushi restaurant and looked at street food stalls from around the world in Trinity Kitchen. They had pizza and ribs and talked about which countries the food originated from. Last week the children looked at a world map to locate the countries and wrote about their visit. The work will be put into the form of a guide book as part of their geography final outcome.

   

Sarah, our Place2be school project manager,  created a story for KS1, the story is called “The boy with the ocean in his tummy”, the story explored feelings and how the children could communicate those feelings to a parent/carer/teacher. Sarah incorporated: shadow puppetry, rhyme and music to tell the story of Luca, a brave young boy, who learns about his feelings and decides to open up to his Nan.
The children thought the story was amazing and they could discuss it afterwards with a very good level of understanding.

24th January

Last week a group of children went to visit Tesco so they could learn more about fish around the world. They looked at a variety of fish and asked some amazing questions. They also looked closely at the gills, fins and scales so they could learn about the different parts of the fish for our science work. When they returned to school they talked about their visit to the rest of the class.

16th January

We are doing gymnastics with our PE coach. This week we did some amazing balances.

This week we have been learning about multiplication as 'groups of...'

10th January

This week we have been learning how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We made some amazing hats to help us.

This week we have started exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in English. We watched an amazing puppet show and made puppets.

22nd November

Class 4 had a great time at Temple Newsam on Thursday! We spent the morning having a fantastic art workshop all about portraits. In the afternoon, we looked at the different animals in the farm and played in the adventure playground.

As part of the pupil initiated work about the history of toys, this group decided to learn about the history of teddies. They wanted to bring their teddies in so we can use their photographs as part of the timeline (to be completed shortly). Other pupils also wanted to bring a teddy in so we had a fun day with a full class of teddy bears!
