Class 10 had a brilliant World Book Day on Thursday 5th March!
We took part in various activities during the day but the highlight was reading with Class 2 whilst enjoying a biscuit.
We discussed our favourite types of books and explored where we like to read.
Class 10 had people who wore some amazing costumes and people who wore some super cozy pyjamas!
National Science Week -
Over the 4th and 5th March, Class 10 took part in our Year 4 Science Week theme: Curiosity - What's your question (with an eco-friendly twist).
Working in groups, we designed, built, tested and evaluated how we could use recyclable materials to work as insulation for a building. To help us test it, we use an ice cube to see how well insulated our models were!
We had great fun during the process and were surprised by some of the results! The children put some brilliant effort into these models and their designs, and all worked amazingly in their teams 🙂
Climate Joy Day! (04.03.26)
Year 4 participated in our school climate assembly to talk about how we contribute to climate change through our carbon footprint, and how we can reduce it. Beechwood's carbon footprint has reduced this year compared to last! 🎉
We then had Shine in the afternoon to help us learn our new song - Climate Joy!
In the afternoon, we researched climate change in Ghana which has given us more insight into our TSU topic, Ghana, this term!
We created some informative posters on how climate change has affected Ghana and the impact it has had on their environment.

Year of Aspiration

Catherine Conyard visited our school to lead us on a journey through Ancient Greece. Catherine used to be a teacher and has been running historical workshops for over 10 years. We interviewed her to see how she got to this point in her career. We asked the following questions ...
What do you enjoy about your job?
"I love history and working with children. I am in a different school each day and on average, work in 150 schools a year. Every day is different and I never know what challenges I will face. I love working for myself as it gives me lots of opportunity to develop new skills."
Why did you decide to do this work?
"I started teaching around 23 years ago but had to stop when I had children. As my children got older, I started these workshops and have been running them for many years. I love my job."
How do you develop the knowledge/skills to complete the workshops?
"I do a lot of research and can create a new workshop in 2-3 weeks. I use books, tv and the internet to help research new topics - I love to learn! Some of the reconstructed artefacts I use can take a bit of time to find or build (not always by me) but they are essential so children can imagine what life was like in those times."
