Autumn Newsletter

Week Ending 17/10/25

Writer of the week - Ibn for writing a brilliant recount of our trip.

Mathematician of the week - Emelia for following strategies carefully.

Star of the week - Bobby for being a fantastic role model.

Behaviour role model - Bella for being very sensible on our school trip.

Class 5 were very lucky to experience a variety of animals at Yorkshire Wildlife Park this week. We were treated to a pack of lions, including 3 cubs, rhinos, giraffes, tigers and many more. A lot of the children enjoyed touching a snake, hissing cockroaches and a giant African land snail. The polar bears kept us entertained in various ways too! The children's wonderful experience has been reflected beautifully in their writing as they have used a range of adjectives to describe the animals they saw. In PSHE, the children showcased their listening and speaking skills, sharing openly about their achievements as well as things they are not yet successful at. It showed how reflective and respectful  we can be as a class😀Finally the children organised food into different  groups so we can remember to eat the right amount

of different types of food to stay healthy. What a fabulous week! 🦁🦒🐯🐒🦏🌍

Week Ending 10/10/25

Writer of the week - Aila for some excellent descriptive sentences.

Star of the week - Noah for always working hard.

Impressed the teacher - Olivia for being a kind member of the class.

Home learning - Ibn for good spelling practise.

In History we began exploring the work of Nelson Mandela and why he is an important part of the past for South Africa. The children amazed me with their fantastic recall of knowledge and facts after completing a timeline of his. In science, we learnt what animals need to survive and decided which items a human baby needs or wants, justifying our answers. As part of our RE we played a game of tig to help us consider how good choices make a game fun, safe and fair and what happens when rules are broken. We are all looking forward to our school trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park Wednesday, and in the meantime, hope you are able to get out and enjoy the autumn sunshine at home🍂

Week Ending 03/10/25

Star of the week - Hadassah for settling into Class 5 so well.

Mathematician of the week - Arham for brilliant number bond work.

Class 5 have been working really hard to apply their learning in English this week, using adjectives to create noun phrases in their character descriptions. They were excellent when recalling learning from Year 1 to complete a world map and were able to identify the 5 oceans as well as the continents! It was great to see how confident everyone was using an atlas. We all enjoyed our drumming session, this week focusing on pulse. In PSHE, we considered the qualities that make a good friend and in RE we discussed our most important class rules. As a class, we have set ourselves two targets for next week: come to school every day and practise our spellings on Spelling Shed 💪

Behaviour role model - Lexi for following the Golden Rules all day every day!

Home learning star - Taevon for all of his time on Spelling Shed.

This week has marked the start of our writing unit, using our knowledge gained from the Greedy Zebra story. We created our own African animals before making a word bank of interesting words to use in our descriptive writing. In Maths we have continued to grow our place value understanding using part-part-whole diagrams. In Geography we researched UK landmarks, finding out which country these well-known places were in. It was lovely to hear some of the children's previous experience of the landmarks we explored!

European Day of Languages was a definite highlight of this week, getting off to a great start with many of us arriving dressed in national colours, and some with incredible cakes (winners will be announced next week in the assembly)🍰🎂 . We made some fantastic European flag bunting, played a 'hello' bingo game, listened and retold a story in French, enjoyed a European school dinner and also visited the Y6 French cafe!

Week Ending 19/09/25

This week, we have been learning about word classes in English, exploring how nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are used to add interest to text. In Maths, we have continued using place value knowledge, solving problems using 2-digit numbers. Shine helped us create animal dances as we went back on the South Africa safari. In science, we closely observed life cycles of animals in the different animal groups we are learning about, ready to write about the life cycle of a butterfly next week. Our first drumming lesson of the year proved to be very popular and we tried hard to follow the rhythm on Bamboo Tamboos (photos next week!). Once again, we rounded the week off with a wonderful Golden Time.
