Class 7

French Learning Mat

21st July

We had great fun this week taking part in Spirit Alive. On Friday our Attendance Winners took part in bubble football.

30th June

Year 3 had an excellent visit to Magna and we explored forces practically in lots of different ways. We learned how water and air can be used to force something to happen and we took part in a workshop to find out how hot air balloons and rockets work. It was brilliant fun exploring how we make equipment move and how we use different forces on the playground equipment.

Well done to all of our certificate winners.

19th May

In Class 7 we talked to each other about our heritage and the heritage of our families. We were very interested to hear about different countries and we used the atlases to show each other where they are in the world. Then we made posters to share with each other.

Year 3 loved visiting Leeds City Museum today to explore the real artefacts from Ancient Egypt. We couldn't believe that we were going to see a real Mummy!  Nesyamun used to be a priest who worked in a temple 1100 BC so he was mummified about 3000 years ago. His sarcophagus was decorated with hieroglyphics that gave information about his life to make him ready for the afterlife.

12th May

Year 3 really enjoyed taking part in a drama workshop with Matthew Bellwood today to help them learn more about Ancient Egyptian mummification.  The Ancient Egyptians believed a person came alive again in the next world if their body was preserved. We learned about the different canopic jars, the good luck spells and the carvings that were put on the sarcophagus to protect the person. Only Pharaohs and rich people could be mummified and the pyramids were built as tombs for them.

5th May

After only one week of learning about Ancient Egypt, some children have already produced some excellent home learning.  They have found out about hieroglyphics, Tutankhamun and some of the gods and goddesses. Well done Class 7.

28th April

We launched our Ancient Egyptian topic by looking at different areas to see what we would be interested in finding out more about. Everyone wants to learn more about the pyramids, mummification, hieroglyphics and what the country of Egypt was like.

Nell Bank - Day 2

Here are some photos that show our second day at Nell Bank. We had a brilliant time building dens and mini-beast hunting. Dave and Lorraine told us how impressed they were with our behaviour and resilience and we really enjoyed working with them.

Nell Bank Day 1

We had a fantastic day exploring Nell Bank. When we arrived, we were really excited and we didn’t even mind the rain. First, we had great fun walking with Dave, Lorraine and Emma in the woods. There were so many trees all around us and some of them were more than one hundred years old. After that, we went pond dipping. Look at the photos to see one of the newts we caught. We then had time for a scavenger hunt before playing on the brilliant playground. Tomorrow we are looking forward to den-building.

31st March

On Monday an artist came into school to work with Year 3. She was from the Leeds Culture 2023 project and she talked to us about the festivals that we have in Leeds. These are our pieces of work to express ourselves using the idea of dressing for festivals and celebrations.

Year 3 pupils present what they have learnt in their TSU work this term.

17th March

Look at the fantastic entries we had for the Red Nose Day Poster Competition about what brings us joy. We also visited the Book Fair this week and enjoyed choosing different types of books that we would like to read.

3rd March

These pictures helped us learn more about what Seacroft was like when it was a small village. We enjoyed walking around the area to find out more about it last week and we had fun making maps of our route.
Everyone got a certificate too for performing their poems so confidently to other year groups. Well done Class 7.

Class 7 really enjoyed sharing their books with each other to celebrate World Book Day.

10th February

Class 7 have had music lessons this half term focusing on learning different rhythms to clap and play with the bamboo tamboo instruments. We have learned to play in time as a class and had great fun practising.

This week Year 3 visited the Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility in Leeds to find out what happens to our rubbish. When we arrived, we couldn’t believe how much waste can be collected and sorted there. The giant grabber picks up tonnes of rubbish and sends it to the furnace to be burnt. As the rubbish is burnt, it creates energy to power houses and buildings in Leeds. It was fun going into the control room to see how the grabber works and finding out why we need to recycle.

Year 3 had a really interesting visit to St Richard's Church last week as part of our community topic. Reverend Dominic told us about the local food bank, Reverend Kate showed us what a Christening was like and Reverend Ann told us more about what we could see in the church.

13th January

We have been busily learning geographical facts using the maps we have around at school. We have also started to think about what we can do to help or change our community. There are also some pictures of our home learning and weaving with Mrs Dunderdale.

Well done to everyone who got their attendance badge this week. There has been fantastic home learning in Year 3 over the last two weeks too. Well done to everyone who has been learning about the United Kingdom and the World at home.

16th December

Look at the fantastic artwork and DT that we have finished this week in Year 3. We designed and made our own vehicles and our artwork is inspired by the Anglo-Saxon myth Beowulf.

9th December

Year 3 had a brilliant visit to Meanwood Valley Farm this week to learn about rocks and soils for our science topic. We touched different soil to describe it and tried to make our own soil using what we could find around us. It was great fun but it didn't work. The scientists told us this was because it takes a lot of time for minerals, water, organic matter and air to turn into soil.

2nd December

Year 3 really enjoyed a drama day with Matthew Bellwood this week learning all about the Vikings. We found out a Viking meeting was called a 'thing' and we learned about a Viking raid on the island of Lindisfarne in 793AD. Everyone liked using a shield and sword to prepare for battle with the Anglo-Saxons.

Year 3 had an excellent Viking day with Catherine this week and we used different reconstructed sources to help us find out about daily life in Viking Britain

18th November

We had great fun and raised a lot of money for Children in Need.

Well done to everyone who received a certificate this week.😊

11th November

In Year 3 we started reading the Anglo-Saxon myth, Beowulf. Today we did some drama work thinking about how the king and warriors felt as the monster Grendel marched across the moors and burst into the hall. We made freeze frames to show the warriors' thoughts and feelings.

Fantastic home learning in Class 7. An excellent poster to show the 4 seasons because we have been looking at how the trees around us change in science and excellent Divali patterns made using different objects.

21st October

We had great fun learning a French dance.

14th October

Year 3 have had a very interesting Roman day this week with Catherine. We spent a long time looking carefully at reconstructed sources being history detectives. We had to work out what the sources were made of and then we had to try to work out what they were used for.  The teachers tried to be the best but the children won.

7th October

A lot of children from Class 7 have been finding out about life in the Stone Age for their home learning. Look at the excellent work and research that has been done at home.

Well done to everyone who got a certificate this week.  We have been working hard this week writing reports in English and learning to understand the column method in Maths.

30th September

Year 3 have absolutely loved their French Day today. We have enjoyed learning to count to 10 in French, a wonderful French meal and a brilliant French story read by Mrs Powley.

Well done Class 7 and 8, you have definitely done us proud with your French speaking! ðŸ™‚

23rd September

We have been learning about Stone Age Art in Year 3 so we went outside to try out our own cave paintings on the playground and the walls.

16th September

Year 3 was very excited on Tuesday because we spent the day with a history expert learning about life in the Stone Age, Bronze age and Iron Age. Galena showed us reconstructed Stone Age artefacts and we had to work out what we thought they were. We explored different animal skins and Stone Age tools as we discovered that people were hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago. Then we learned about cave paintings and used charcoal and pastels to make our own. We had great fun and we learned so much history!
