21st May
This week we took part in a Punch and Judy workshop with Matthew Bellwood. We learnt that the puppet show was a very popular past time at the seaside. After we watched the show, we acted out the performance and made our own puppets in the classroom. We had lots of fun!
14th May
We had a fantastic day learning about different sea life habitats. We learnt about coral reefs, rivers, seashores and the polar regions. We borrowed some great objects from The Deep such as gentoo penguin feathers, snakeskin and real coral to help us with our learning. Later on, we worked really hard to use our observational skills to draw different shells.
This week we have been learning about the superpower 'Confidence'. During the week, Holly, Lucas and Eric used their superpowers in school. Well done!
30th April
This week Class 5 really enjoyed reading outside in the sunshine during our reading fluency sessions! it was also a chance for us to dress up as our favourite book character while we have the Book Fair in school.
23rd April
This week we have been learning about the superpower 'Resilience'. During the week, Peter, Logan, Alexis, Sophia and Poppy have been using their superpowers in school. Well done!
Our topic this term is 'The Seaside'. In our launch lesson, we used a range of information books, photographs, maps and objects to help us come up with some class questions that we are going to answer through our learning. We enjoyed looking at the photographs of seaside holidays in the past.
19th March
This week class 5 enjoyed a workshop in the Star dome. We had lots of fun learning about space explorers and the Solar System as part of our topic.
4th March - World Book Day
Year 2 had a great day celebrating World Book Day. We read a new story called 'Bob and the Moon Tree Mystery' by Simon Bartram. We then worked in small groups to create our amazing 'Book in a Box' where we recreated different scenes from the story.

We had a great week including exploring the Seacroft jungle with Matthew Bellwood and some Space art!
This week class 5 have enjoyed designing and making their own African animal puppets. They worked really hard to improve their sewing skills and produced some amazing puppets. Well done!
Class 5 have worked really hard this week to solve division by sharing practically and using arrays. We also made some posters about our link school Ntolwane Primary in South Africa to show what we had learnt. We have started to make our African animal puppets and we can't wait to show you some photographs when we have finished them.
Class 5 have had a great week. It was No Pens Day Wednesday and we took part in lots of lessons where we could work on our speaking and listening skills. In maths, we created repeating patterns and we explained how we made these with our partners. As part of our South Africa topic, we worked in small groups to discuss, plan and make our own 3D maps of South Africa. Afterwards we worked together to sort the features into human and physical and labelled our maps.
20th November
This week Class 5 have worked really hard in maths learning how to solve multiplication using arrays. We also really enjoyed our drumming session with Mr Harrington on Thursday.

The children had a great day celebrating Children in Need. They dressed up in their own clothes or pyjamas to raise money for the charity.

Matthew Bellwood came into school and we took part in a drama workshop. We really enjoyed acting out the traditional African tale 'Awungelama'. We are going to retell the story in our own words.
Autumn Term 1 - South Africa
Class 5 have had a busy half term learning about South Africa. As part of our topic and Black History Month, the children researched Nelson Mandela to find out about his life and why he was so important. They worked in small groups to make posters about his life.
In art we explored different patterns found on traditional South African material, clothing and jewellery. We then used these ideas to create prints using different techniques. Here are some of our final pieces of art.
