Class 13
PE Coach
This half term, year 6 have been enjoying coach sessions from 2 different coaches. Today, we looked at tag rugby, starting with a game where we tried to collect as many tags as possible. We continued practising the skills in different ways by running through an area with defenders trying to take the tags.
Welcoming visitors from Mayo College
For the past 2 weeks, we have had visitors to our school all the way from, Mayo College in India.
We began with an assembly where we showed them all about Beechwood. Year 6 told them all about our trip to London.
We next had the opportunity to ask some of the boys questions about their life in India. This was very interesting as there are lots of similarities as well as differences.
Over the 2 weeks with the boys, we practised debating, learnt all about Indian history, created animations and some of us went with them to Nell Bank on an outward bounds day.
Drumming Lesson
Today, Year 6 enjoyed our second drumming session. We practised rhythms with clapping before working with the bamboo tamboos.
The rhythms got progressively harder and faster but we did a great job at keeping up!
DEC Migration Workshop
Today, Class 13 took part in a workshop with Hannah from Leeds DEC. We learnt about migration and why people move around the earth. We learnt that there are many different reasons for people to leave their countries and we heard the stories of 9 people who have migration from around the world to Leeds.
It was incredibly interesting hearing these stories and we built on our knowledge of migration and refugees in guided reading.
Leeds United Foundation Workshop
Today, we had a visitor from the Leeds United Foundation who did a PSHE workshop with us looking at the choices we can make in our future.
We thought about our transitions to high school and how we can keep making the right choices through this change.
London Residential Day 1
After setting off super early this morning, we arrived in London and went straight to Russel Square Gardens and had a picnic in the lovely weather.
Hopping back on the coach, we headed to the River Thames to see the river and the many things that surround it. We saw the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the London Eye and the Shard! We then got an even better look at the landmarks by going on a river cruise. We even learnt that there are over 100 species of fish in the River Thames and it is one of the cleanest rivers in the world!
Next, we had a lovely tea at Pizza Express - the pizzas and desserts were especially delicious! It was nice to have a sit down and time to chat with friends after the travelling and walking today.
To see even more of London, we then went on the London Eye. Quite a few of us were nervous before we went up but once we were seeing the whole of London, we let go of our fear and really enjoyed the view! The sky was clear so we could see all the way across London which was amazing! We then explored Parliament Square Gardens which had statues of famous people in British history including some prime ministers.
After our busy first day, we headed to the hostel to check in and get comfy in our rooms. We were very excited about our rooms but got to sleep quickly after a busy day.

Science Home Learning Mat
Our science topic for this term is 'systems in the body' and we are looking at things like the heart, lungs and how blood moves around the body.
Here is the home learning mat for this term with ideas for you to create some interesting work related to what you are doing in school. We are very excited to see what you do at home!
Once you have completed any home learning, bring any work into school to receive a reward!
No Pens Wednesday!
Today we enjoyed lots of different activities for No Pens Wednesday. We began the day by meeting some interesting creatures and ended up with snakes over our shoulders and tarantulas on our heads!
We then went outdoors to compete in an orienteering challenge, working in a group to find letters that made World Cup themed words. It was fun to work in a team and run around trying to find the letters.
Next, we had an English lesson but couldn't do our writing with a pencil today. Instead, we used the class Chromebooks to write a creative writing piece with a partner.
We finished the day with a science themed workshop looking at the circulatory system and how blood travels through the heart, lungs and the body.
