Year 2

We celebrated Earth Day by learning about the importance of protecting our oceans and understanding the impact humans can have on marine life. We also explored the life and work of David Attenborough, finding out about his inspiring documentaries, including his recent film focusing on the oceans. As a class, we worked collaboratively to create a large and detailed ocean model, carefully crafting coral, jellyfish, fish, turtles, seahorses and seaweed using a range of materials. Everyone contributed ideas and effort, showing great teamwork and creativity throughout the day. A particular highlight was Sam and Oscar’s impressive LEGO model of David Attenborough, which added a thoughtful and imaginative finishing touch to our display.

Class 5 really enjoyed Climate Day, exploring weather and climate around the world. We created our own weather reports for Seacroft before starting a weather log for three contrasting places: the Sahara Desert, the Amazon Rainforest and Antarctica. We then delved deeper into Antarctica through a live video stream with a real-life explorer, which helped us understand the challenges faced in this extreme environment. We shared our ideas about how we can make positive changes to help protect the penguins’ natural habitat in the future.
We also learned the poem 'The Weather is Changing' and performed it outdoors, using expression and actions to bring the words to life in the fresh air.
The Weather is Changing
In Year 2, we enjoyed celebrating Climate Joy Day- We learnt lots of facts about Antarctica and enjoyed making our own models.

Year 2 really enjoyed Climate Joy Day on Wednesday. We took part in lots of different activities including singing with Shine, a scavenger hunt, making nature art and animal homes and thinking about things we can do to help enjoy our planet more.
