Year 4

Year 4 explored the concept of climate injustice, learning what it means and how it affects the Earth and the people, animals and environments that live on it. We discussed how different communities around the world are impacted in different ways and considered the causes and consequences of these inequalities. The children then used their understanding to create powerful pieces of artwork, each reflecting their own thoughts and feelings about injustice, as well as the causes and outcomes. Their work showed great creativity and a thoughtful awareness of important global issues.

Year 4 added an eco-theme to Science Week to work on the theme: Curiosity - What's your question? Working in groups, we designed, built, tested and evaluated how we could add recyclable materials to work as insulation for a building. We had great fun during the process and were surprised by some of the results!

Year 4 took part in our school climate assembly, where we explained how we contribute to climate change through our carbon footprint and what we can do to reduce it. We were proud to share that Beechwood’s carbon footprint has reduced this year compared to last, which shows that our efforts are making a difference.
In the afternoon, Shine worked with us to help learn our new song, 'Climate Joy', which we really enjoyed singing together.
Later in the day, we researched climate change in Ghana, linking to our TSU topic this term. This helped us understand how climate change affects different parts of the world. We created informative posters to show how climate change has impacted Ghana and the effect it has had on the environment.

Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic Climate Joy Day filled with hands-on activities. Pupils explored the school grounds in an exciting scavenger hunt, discovering natural treasures and learning about biodiversity. They then used materials from our wildlife area to create vibrant art pieces, celebrating the beauty of nature and reinforcing the importance of protecting it.
