Autumn Newsletter

RBA -Reception Baseline Assessment

 

In the first 6 weeks of Reception the children participate in Reception baseline tests. Please click on the link to find out more.

Please do not worry about these as the children find the activties fun. If you have any questions please see your child's class teacher.

Week Ending 05/12/2025

This week at school we have received an amazing donation of books from the Bookspark event. The children were so excited to go to the hall and got to pick two books to keep! We enjoyed looking at these books with Year 6. 

 

The children have also started to enjoy learning about the Stickman. We are going to be doing lots on the stickman over the next few weeks and we all can't wait for our trip next week.

Week Ending 28/11/2025

This week we have been celebrating friendships as part of our Antibullying week. We kicked things off with our odd socks day on Monday where we did lots of sorting of odd socks and talked about how it's good to be unique. Then for the rest of the week we have worked hard to think about what makes a good friend. We have made friendship potions, friendship pictures and shown how we can play together in provision. 

 

On Friday it was our road safety day, we had a safety workshop from D side and in class we did lots of work on keeping safe when by roads. We know the golden rules you must follow.

Week Ending 21/11/2025

This week it the second of our Interfaith Week. Rev Ann and other faith leaders came in and led a workshop where….

This week was also Fred’s Birthday. We had a party for him to show our understanding of the celebration Birthday’s. We had to plan what we were going to include in is party. We decided we wanted to make cakes, decorations, hats and play party games. We had lots of fun planning and then carrying out the party.

Week Ending 14/11/2025

This week it was our Interfaith Week. We will lucky to have a workshop with Saffiya about Islam.

She read her story Aminah’s prayer beads to us using props. We got to handle them whilst listening to the story.

We also celebrated Remembrance Day. We talked about why this day is important and why we have a 2minute silence. We made Poppies in different ways and discussed what this symbol means.

This week is also celebrated Children in need. We talked about why this day is important. How we can raise money to help children in school and at home.

We then spent the day doing fun activities like the Strictly dance challenge, a hunt around school, making Pudsey pictures, mark making, painting and collages.

Week Ending 07/11/2025

 

We were so pleased to see the children back this half term and listen to all the fantastic things that they did over the holidays.  Thank you to all the parents that posted photos of this on tapestry. The children love seeing each other on this and it really does create our class value of belonging together!

 

We have had a busy week with celebrating climate joy day. We carried out our sponsored scavenger walks around school and talked about how we can look after our climate. We looked at natural rubbish and rubbish that we can and can't recycle.

 

We also launched our new celebration topic, the children loved talking about what they knew and wanted to find out. Plus we started the topic with a bang and we talked about Bonfire night! We had lots of fun creating lots of firework art in and outside of the classroom, we made firework music, wrote a class poem and ended the week with a hot chocolate in the magic garden and a story.

Week Ending 24/10/25

The children have had a super last week of the term, so much so that all of the children received a certificate to say well done for all of their hard work this term. They have all settled into class one so well and we wait to continue their journey in Reception next half term. 

 

We also won best class punctuality in the whole of the school. The children attend school on time the most in all the classes. We were so proud to get chocolates and a class certificate!

 

This week has been a busy week of going on autumn walks, making pictures using natural objects and talking about the signs of Autumn.

We have also learnt about the celebration of Diwali and made some super mehndi patterns, Diyas and rangoli patterns.

 

Finally, we are so proud that the children showcased their learning this half term and also showed our understanding of Black History month by performing our assembly Infront of parents this week. We are so proud of all the children.

Week Ending 17/10/25

This week we have started our learning to celebrate Black History Month. We have looked at various important black people from our history and looked at the impact they have made on our world.

We have looked at Alma Thomas in detail and produced lots of art work to show the work that she carried out. We loved experimenting with colour, paint and collage.

Week Ending 10/10/2025

This week we have had a busy week asking questions to people in school that make up our school community. We began by discussing what community meant and then we had visits from our headteacher Mrs Lanforth,  our caretaker Dave and our cook Lisa.

We asked lots of questions.

On Tuesday first Lisa our cook came to visit. We asked her the following questions:

What is your favourite thing to cook? 

What is your favourite food? Is pasta today? 

Do you cook by yourself? 

Where do you buy the food? 

 

In the afternoon Dave our caretaker came to visit. We asked him the following questions:

Have you always worked at beechwood?

What do you do?

Do you like your job?

Can you fix my yellow house?

On Thursday Mrs Lanforth our headteacher came to visit. We asked her the following questions:

What is your favourite food?

What is your job?

Where do you work in school?

What is your favourite part of your job?

What made you want to be a teacher?

 

We also had lot's of fun making maps of school, this included creating treasure maps outside for our friends to follow. Next week we will look at our wider community so please upload pictures of the children out and about this weekend in Seacroft. It could be a visit in the park, or to Tesco or the library. We would love to find out where you visit in Seacroft.

 

We have also started to learn about Black History Month. We had an assembly led by Mrs Lanforth and then we discussed the lives some important Black people that have made a difference. Taio also shared a poster he had made at home with his family. We were super proud that he could share his family heritage.

Week Ending 03/10/25

This week we have had a busy week using our senses around school. We enjoyed going on lots of walks around school and outside talking about what we could see, smell, touch, taste, and hear.

We also used our senses to make apple crumble, we picked apples from our apple trees outside, we peeled them, cut them and finally cooked the apples and made crumble.

We had lots of fun doing this.

In maths we have continued learning about number 2, looking around school to find 2 and also we have been making repeating patterns. Please help the children to look for 2 and patterns when you are out and about.

Week Ending 26/09/2025

This week in Class one we have been having lots of discussions about our families. We have been sharing who are our family members and we have also talked about our pets.

We have also been reading the story Owl babies, the children enjoyed watching the teachers act out the story in the magic garden. We then made a class nest for the owl babies.

 

On Friday we had our European day of languages, we learnt how to say Hello in different languages. We had a French cafe in our classes. We got to have juice, croissants and Au pain chocolate.

Week Ending 19/09/2025

This week we have had a fun packed week doing lots more on our topic All about me.

We worked together to draw around our bodies and label body parts. We had a Pantosaurus talk to remember that our privates are private with a fun song.

We have learnt about the importance of brushing our teeth, twice a day and for 2 minutes. We even brushed crocodiles' teeth to make sure that they were super clean.

In maths we were finding one inside and outside, some of us noticed 1 was in our house numbers, on a clock, we have one nose. Please look out for 1 while you are out and about.

 

We also loved having so many parents join the children at our parent lunch. The children loved it and it so nice to be able to see the children sharing their joy with their grown ups. Please continue do try and prebook lunches with the children as you will know better on guiding them on making the right choices. If you are unsure on how to do this please speak to a member of the office.

 

Finally we have started upload lots of things on tapestry about what we are doing, pictures of the children so please do check this. If you havent signed up and would like to please see the office.

Week Ending 12.9.25

 

This week we have had a super week where we have stayed in school longer, met all of our classmates and even stopped for dinners. We are so proud of how well the children have settled in. 

In our learning we had our prelaunch of our All about me topic where we unpicked what was inside the box and then we said what we all knew. Lots of children knew that we were made up of a skeleton in our bodies, that we went to Beechwood school and that we had families.

Next week we will discuss with the children what they want to learn about in the topic.

Week Ending 5.9.25    

The children in class 1 had a super first week during their transition visits.

The children have been learning how to play in the different provision areas in the classroom and outside. They were trying hard to use the areas correctly, share and tidy up.

We were very proud of the children, and we hope they have enjoyed their first week.
