This week we have had a busy week asking questions to people in school that make up our school community. We began by discussing what community meant and then we had visits from our headteacher Mrs Lanforth,  our caretaker Dave and our cook Lisa.

We asked lots of questions.

On Tuesday first Lisa our cook came to visit. We asked her the following questions:

What is your favourite thing to cook?

What is your favourite food? Is pasta today?

Do you cook by yourself?

Where do you buy the food?

In the afternoon Dave our caretaker came to visit. We asked him the following questions:

Have you always worked at beechwood?

What do you do?

Do you like your job?

Can you fix my yellow house?

On Thursday Mrs Lanforth our headteacher came to visit. We asked her the following questions:

What is your favourite food?

What is your job?

Where do you work in school?

What is your favourite part of your job?

What made you want to be a teacher?

We also had lot's of fun making maps of school, this included creating treasure maps outside for our friends to follow. Next week we will look at our wider community so please upload pictures of the children out and about this weekend in Seacroft. It could be a visit in the park, or to Tesco or the library. We would love to find out where you visit in Seacroft.

We have also started to learn about Black History Month. We had an assembly led by Mrs Lanforth and then we discussed the lives some important Black people that have made a difference. Taio also shared a poster he had made at home with his family. We were super proud that he could share his family heritage.

This week we have had a busy week using our senses around school. We enjoyed going on lots of walks around school and outside talking about what we could see, smell, touch, taste, and hear.

We also used our senses to make apple crumble, we picked apples from our apple trees outside, we peeled them, cut them and finally cooked the apples and made crumble.

We had lots of fun doing this.

In maths we have continued learning about number 2, looking around school to find 2 and also we have been making repeating patterns. Please help the children to look for 2 and patterns when you are out and about.

We have learnt about the importance of brushing our teeth, twice a day and for 2 minutes. We even brushed crocodiles' teeth to make sure that they were super clean.

In maths we were finding one inside and outside, some of us noticed 1 was in our house numbers, on a clock, we have one nose. Please look out for 1 while you are out and about.

We also loved having so many parents join the children at our parent lunch. The children loved it and it so nice to be able to see the children sharing their joy with their grown ups. Please continue do try and prebook lunches with the children as you will know better on guiding them on making the right choices. If you are unsure on how to do this please speak to a member of the office.

This week we have had a super week where we have stayed in school longer, met all of our classmates and even stopped for dinners. We are so proud of how well the children have settled in.

In our learning we had our prelaunch of our All about me topic where we unpicked what was inside the box and then we said what we all knew. Lots of children knew that we were made up of a skeleton in our bodies, that we went to Beechwood school and that we had families.

Next week we will discuss with the children what they want to learn about in the topic.

Our Certificate Winners this week

The children in class 1 had a super first week during their transition visits.

The children have been learning how to play in the different provision areas in the classroom and outside. They were trying hard to use the areas correctly, share and tidy up.

We were very proud of the children, and we hope they have enjoyed their first week.
