This week we read the story Oliver’s Vegetables and talking about how some mini beasts like to eat vegetables just like Oliver does!

To investigate, we carried out our own science experiment with our water snails. We offered them three vegetables: broccoli, spinach, and tomato. First, we made our predictions about which one the snails would like the most. After a class vote, spinach was the clear favourite!

We then placed the vegetables into the tank and waited to see what would happen. How would we know which vegetable the snails liked best? The children suggested:

· They won’t eat the ones they don’t like.

· They will eat the ones they do like.

After observing carefully, we discovered that our predictions were correct! The snails left the broccoli but ate all of the spinach.

The children loved observing the snails and seeing their scientific thinking come to life!

Today we had a very special visitor who came to lead a fun and relaxing yoga session! The children learned a range of different stretches and poses, practising their balance, coordination, and careful breathing. We talked about how yoga helps our bodies stay strong and our minds feel calm. We were also introduced to Daisy the Dragon, who took us on an exciting dragon hunt! 🐲

The children moved in lots of different ways — stretching tall, crouching low, reaching, balancing, and tiptoeing quietly as we searched. It was wonderful to see everyone joining in with such enthusiasm. Through the story, we also explored different feelings. We discussed times when Daisy felt happy, worried, brave, or calm, and the children shared their own ideas about these emotions. This helped us think about how movement and breathing can help us manage big feelings. It was a fantastic session full of imagination, movement, and mindfulness. We look forward to more yoga adventures soon!

Today we found out that Goldilocks had stolen all of the beds and chairs from bears! We decided to be super helpful and make some more beds and chairs for the bears! We used lots of different sized boxes, blocks and recycling. The children had some brilliant ideas and even tested the beds put for themselves first!

This week we made bread just like the hen in the Little Red Hen story! We used a visual recipe card, making sure to carefully measure each ingredient that we needed. We also used a visual instruction card, following each step of instructions. We ended by taste-testing our baked bread—hard work never tasted so good!

This week the children had a wonderful time exploring our Gingerbread Men theme through a range of hands-on activities.

We began by making gingerbread playdough, carefully mixing and kneading the ingredients. The children enjoyed feeling the different textures and smelling the spices.

Next, we took part in a gingerbread men taste test! The children were excited to try the gingerbread, talking about the flavours and whether they liked it or not.

Finally, the children created their own gingerbread men arts and crafts, choosing colours and decorations independently. They showed fantastic creativity and concentration while expressing their own ideas.

We have had a truly magical final week of term filled with lots of festive fun and excitement!

We treated ourselves to hot chocolate and biscuits, which the children loved. Throughout the week, the children took part in lots of Christmas craft activities, exploring their creativity as they made twinkling snowflakes and melted snowmen. There was a wonderful buzz of excitement as we talked about Christmas.

It has been a lovely week full of smiles, creativity, and festive cheer, and a perfect way to end the term. We wish all our families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

This week we introduced our exciting new topic — Celebrations! The children explored a range of materials linked to different celebrations, such as birthdays, Diwali, Christmas, Eid, Hanukkah and birthdays. We had a lovely group discussion about the special celebrations we enjoy with our families, such as birthdays, weddings, and religious festivals. The children shared their own experiences — from blowing out candles and wearing party clothes, to enjoying special foods and spending time with loved ones.

The children went on an autumn walk, looking carefully at the changes happening in our environment. We collected lots of autumn treasures along the way — shiny conkers, crunchy leaves, and interesting sticks. The children were so excited to spot all the different shapes, sizes and colours around them! When we returned, we used our collections to create our very own Autumn Investigation Station .

This week we’ve been celebrating Bonfire Night with lots of exciting, creative and hands-on learning experiences! The children explored firework art using toilet roll tubes cut into shapes to print colourful explosions across the page — they loved seeing how the paint spread and mixed to make bright, sparkly patterns in the sky!
