We enjoyed dressing up on world book day as some of our favourite book characters. In class we enjoyed doing some work based around our author visit on Tuesday.
This week we have been learning about evergreen and deciduous trees. We went on a walk around school and saw which trees we had around school.
This week in maths we have been learning about place value. We have used different maths equipment to make numbers, counting how many tens and ones in each number.
We have enjoyed looking at maps and atlases this week and looking at which countries make up the UK as well as countries around the world. We chose some countries and found out foods that they traditionally ate and added them to our own class world map.
The children have been given the challenge of researching at home foods and the other countries
We have had a super week back at school seeing our friends, talking about the holidays and carrying out our launch lessons on food. One of our highlights of the week was having Matthew Bellwood in our class. We spent Wednesday afternoon watching a puppet show about Jack and the Beanstalk, doing some drama about the story and finally making our own puppets.
This week we have enjoyed making our own self portraits and creating abstract portraits in groups. We have been learning how to mix colours, shade and use different types of brushes and pencils.
Here are a few examples that we have done.
This week we enjoyed learning a bit about Judo in our PE lesson. We learnt some basic moves and learnt some key words that we use when doing Judo.
We have had an exciting week going to the Library on Monday and then going to Temple Newsum. At the library we enjoyed looking at different fiction and non - fiction books.
On our trip we enjoyed visiting the farm and then having a workshop about portraits.
We have enjoyed learning about our senses since we have been back to school after half term. We decided to explore our senses in different ways.
We went on a walk around school to see what we could see, we played a hearing game in the play ground and we really enjoyed our touch, taste and smelling games.
In Maths we have learnt how to halve objects. We enjoyed working with a partner to do this
This week we had lots of fun making Moving Toys in DT. First we practised our skills of making levers and pivots, sliders, axels and using scissors. Then we planned our designs on toys to follow on from our history work. Finally we made our designs using lots of different resources.
We have had lots of fun this term, working very hard in our lessons.
We had a fantastic time at Eureka on Wednesday 17th October. We explored the museum learning about ourselves, our senses, our body and many more things. We took part in a Gross Lab show and learnt about poo, blood, burping and sick which was really gross.
Friday 12th October
This week in Science we enjoyed talking about our body parts. We draw around a friend and labelled their body parts. We talked about how these linked to the senses.
On Wednesday we enjoyed No Pen Day. We began the day by thinking of questions we could ask the animal man, then we enjoyed learning about the minibeasts the animal man brought in. We saw a snake, tarantula, snail, lizard, tortoise and millipede.
Before lunch we had story telling with Matthew Bellwood who told us a story called The Tricks of Anansi and Rainbow Crow.
In the afternoon we enjoyed making plasticine mini-beasts, painting, using the iPads and taking about our favourite parts of the day.
This week in History we have enjoyed showing our memory bags, making our family trees, making our family out of play dough and paint. In English we wrote about when we were younger and shared these with the class in our class memory book.
This week we have continued to look at the seasons. We have been discussing what the weather is like in each season. Our favourite season is Summer.
Class 3 have had an amazing first week. They have settled in really well, exploring their new classroom, trying very hard with their work and being kind to each other.
We thought of some class rules that we all would follow whilst we are in year one.
