Herd Farm Days 2 and 3
Day 2 at Herd Farm began bright and early with a 7:30am breakfast to fuel the busy day ahead. Pupils were split into three groups and took part in a rotation of exciting outdoor activities, including the zip wire, crate stack, archery, and the assault course. The first activity took place before lunch, giving everyone a chance to challenge themselves and build confidence. After a tasty baked potato lunch, the groups moved rounds to the second activity which brought even more adventure and teamwork.
In the evening, everyone enjoyed a well-earned tea of sausage and chips. Afterward, pupils could choose how to spend their free time—playing football on the field, challenging friends at giant chess, or relaxing in the upstairs lounge. At 8:00pm, it was snack time before bed, and after such a busy day, most children were more than ready for an early night.
Day 3 began once again with a 7:30am breakfast, followed by packing up and tidying their rooms. At 10:00am, the final activity gave pupils one last chance to challenge themselves and enjoy the outdoors. After a delicious pasta lunch, it was time for final goodbyes and a last tidy-up before heading home at 2:00pm. Everyone left with big smiles, new skills, and great memories of a fantastic trip.
Herd Farm - Day 1
Year 5 arrived at Herd Farm safely just after 3:00pm. First, we had a tour of the building, and then everyone had the challenge of making their own beds!
For tea, we enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken, rice, and wraps, followed by a tasty chocolate brownie for dessert.
After tea, we set off on a fantastic 'night' walk into the countryside, bathed in glorious evening sunshine. When we returned, there was a little time to relax before settling down for the night.
We're all really excited about tomorrow’s activities and simply can’t wait! Everyone is having a brilliant time.

This week in science we investigated water resistance within our 'Forces and Mechanisms' topic. We decided to do some comparative testing to see which shape would have the least or the most water resistance acting on it. Straight away children realised that because we were changing the shape of the modelling clay, this was our independent variable. To ensure it was a fair test, in each group, we decided on a method for timing, used scales to make sure each shape weighed the same and dropped each shape from the same height.
We repeated each test three times to find the average time for each shape.
We acted as scientists to conclude that shapes that had been streamlined could move through water the quickest since it's smaller surface area meant there was less water resistance acting upon it.
Well done to our certificate winners:

This week Class 11 was incredibly lucky to have Matthew Bellwood visit us. We built on our knowledge that we had previously learnt about the Victorians in year 2. We now know that Victorian children listened to fairy tales but there's were a little scarier than the ones we were told!
We loved looking at all the different events the Victorians looked forward to. We could spot similarities and differences to the entertainment that they had and what we do now. We loved exploring Victorian toys and plays Victorian games too.
We learned all about the Victorian's love for books and how the first public library was set up in the Victorian times. We also learned how they watched zoetropes and praxinoscope. We learned how moving pictures eventually evolved into films.
It was a brilliant day!

Class 11 have tried their hand at debating this week! We made a conscience alley and had some excellent for and against arguments for whether it was or whether it was not acceptable for Goldilocks to enter the bear's house without permission. I am extremely impressed with how mature their arguments were. Well done year 5!
