Well done everyone

Ghana

We launched our new TSU topic which is Ghana.  We carried out initial research to look at the history, landscape, food and fashion of the country. We had a great time finding out new information - reasearching the food made us hungry!

Science

Year 4 welcomed Sam ‘The sound man’ into school to help us learn about our news science topic – sound!

We had a fantastic morning with him and learnt how sound is created, how it travels, all about pitch, tone and volume.  It was a very interactive morning and everyone got involved - it was brilliant!

Drumming

We have continued our drumming this term.  We are learning to follow the rythm and really enjoy our time.

Children In Need

Class 9 helped celebrate Children in Need by dressing up and raising funds for this great cause.

Interfaith Week

Year 4 welcomed Helen from the Etz Chaim (Tree of Life) Synagogue in Moortown.  Helen taught us about the origins of Judaism and described some of the festivals celebrated by Jews.  Every child also made Challah bread and thoroughly enjoyed sampling our hard work!

Climate Joy Day

Year 4 parpicipated in our Climate Joy day where we got to appreciate the outdoors and learn more about our climate.  We started our secret mission to learn how we can make changes to help everyone - we are now Agents of Change.  We then spent part of the afternoon planting daffodil bulbs (and were fascinated by how many worms there were).  We had a great day.

Leeds City Museum

Year 4 continued their leaning about ancient Greece with an exciting trip to Leeds City Museum.  The classes took part in a workshop to learn more about ancient Greece, becoming curators and holding artefacts from that time period.  The children also went on a walk around Leeds City Centre and looked at how Greek architecture influenced modern building.  They looked at the Civic and Town Hall and drew pictures of them.  It was a great day out and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Black History Month

Year 4 took part in Black History Month.  It gave us the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.  We welcomed parents to our assembly and wowed everyone with the work we had completed.  Well done everyone.

Science

Class 9 studied electricity for our science topic this term.  We had a few shocks and several bright moments as we worked out how to complete circuits and light up bulbs, make buzzers sound and use switches.

9th September 2024

In Year 4 this week we talked about the history we learned last year and then we launched our Ancient Greece topic. To help us think about what we would like to find out about in this topic, we explored different resources in groups. We watched videos on BBC Bitesize to find out what life was like in Ancient Greece, looked at reconstructed pottery, made notes using the non-fiction books we had and tried on dressing up clothes. After that we talked together about the key questions we want to research and answer this term.

To follow up our initial research, we then took part in an exciting workshop with Katerina where we got to experience many more aspect of life in ancient Greece.
