    Last week at Beechwood Primary School...

    Children in school really enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 all dressed up as book characters. There was a whole variety of outfits and the children all enjoyed getting together in the afternoon to look at all of the different outfits. There were prizes for the most creative outfit for children in each year group. Class pages have photographs of the children dressed up in their book costumes. Children in 4, 5 and 6 designed posters about reading to go in the new Key Stage 1 library, there is a photograph of the winners on the home page.

    On Friday 13th March it is Red Nose Day, children can come to school dressed in something red.

    World book day

    Pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 have been designing posters to encourage children to read.  These will be displayed in our new Key Stage 1 library as well as around school.  The winners each received a certificate and a book of their choice, and all entrants received a sticker from Mrs Darnbrough.

    Last week Year 5 and 6 enjoyed their dance workshops on Tuesday. Year 6 continued their work with Northern Ballet and they are looking forward to seeing a performance at The Grand Theatre on 11th March. Year 5 had a workshop by The Northern School of Contemporary Dance, the children really enjoyed this workshop and had lots of positive feedback. Thursday was a busy day as Year 1, 2 and 3 were all on educational visits, children in all of these year groups were a credit to the school and represented the school perfectly. Year 1 had a brilliant time at Skipton Castle and they learnt lots about the mediaeval building. Children particularly enjoyed climbing the steps into the watch tower. Year 2 had a fantastic time in the costume department at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and the children quickly found out that there was a costume for all of their suggestions! Year 3 loved their visit to Magna, children enjoyed exploring the Air, Fire, Earth and Water zones. The children were facinated by the experiments in the rockets and balloons workshop.

    This week at Beechwood ...

    On Wednesday the school photographer is in school taking class photographs. Year 3 will all have their class photographs before they go swimming.

    We also have a Book Fair in the school hall everyday after school this week. Please come along and support this.

    On Thursday it is World Book Day, children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 can all dress up as a book character.

    The final week of the half term was another busy week in school. We welcomed visitors from our link school in Lille, France on Wednesday. The visitors enjoyed looking around the school and spent time in classes. They enjoyed having lunch in the hall with the children and finding out about the role that Beechwood Leaders have. The London residential was a huge success and there are lots of photographs on the Year 5 class pages of this visit. In assembly on Friday, Georgia and Cieran were the winners of the attendance prize this half term and were each presented with a Hudl. Well Done!

    Week commencing 9th February 2015

    Another very busy week at Beechwood last week. Thank you to all those that came to the drama club performance on Thursday, children have really enjoyed this club and also worked hard on their performance skills during the term. Year 5 enjoyed their visit to the academy for a gas safety day, they are also very excited about their residential to London this week. In their key stage assemblies, all children looked at the new school website. Children have been encouraged to access the web links on their class pages as these will support their learning. Mathletics usernames and passwords will be sent home this week, children are encouraged to use Mathletics on a regular basis at home. Coming soon to the Home Learning Support page of the website will be videos showing elements of maths, handwriting and phonics.

    Other news:

    From today, Red Nose Day merchandise will be available to buy in classes. There is a wide range of products available.

    Don't forget we break up at 3.00pm on Friday 13th February for half term, pupils will return to school on Monday 23rd February.

    Week commencing 2nd February 2015

    Last week we launched our new app and it is great to hear that so many people have downloaded this and that there has been so much positive feedback.

    Year 2, 5 and 6 all enjoyed their visit to the Stardome in school, there are photographs and information on class pages about the day. Year 3 enjoyed their visit from Councillor Judith Blake and they are looking forward to asking their questions to the local councillors this week. Year 4, also had a visitor in school last week to support their current topic on Ghana.

    After school club letters for after half term will be sent out to all children later on this week and will need returning to class teachers if your child would like to attend a club.

    It has been a successful start to the Spring term. We have already had lots of visitors into school  to support children's learning and there are lots of educational visits planned for this term. The new Nursery children have settled in well and parents are encouraged to come into school for "Stay and Play" sessions. Please see the Nursery class page for more information about this. Reception are enjoying their new Fantasy World topic, the children have really enjoyed playing in the role play areas. Year 1 enjoyed their recent visit into the local area to find out more about the different types of houses. Year 2 have been doing lots of exciting work relating to their explorer topic. Children in Year 3 are working hard on their new topic "Our Community, Our Responsibility." The children have lots of projects planned for this half term and have various councillors coming into school over the next few weeks. In Year 4, children have started their Ghana topic, this is a great opportunity as we have a link school in Ghana that the children will be finding out about during the topic. Year 5 are looking forward to their residential to London in a few weeks time. Year 6 have been working incredibly hard improving their English skills and are currently writing their own stories inspired by ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret.'

    This week we will be launching our app, a letter will be sent home about this during the week.

    Last week at Beechwood Primary School ...

    Happy New Year! We hope that you and your family had a lovely Christmas. Thank you for visiting the new school website. We hope that you will use the website on a regular basis to find out about the things that are going on in school. Each of the class pages will be updated each week with a blog, photographs and examples of work will also be added on a regular basis. Each class page also contains links to various websites that children can access at home to support their learning. The calendar will be updated on an ongoing basis so please look at this for upcoming events. In the coming weeks we will also be launching a Beechwood app that can be used on your phone.

    At Beechwood we are all looking forward to the Spring Term and we look forward to sharing the things that we learn with you.

    I am sure you will join me in saying Well Done to all of the children for their Christmas performances last week. Children in Nursery and Reception really enjoyed learning all of the songs in particular "Let It Go." Year 1 and 2 held two very successful performances of "The Wriggly Nativity" and I am sure you would agree that they did a fantastic job with all of their speaking parts. Year 3 and 4 worked really hard on their performance of "Gold to Bethlehem." The children worked did well to learn all of their lines for their performance. Year 5 and 6 enjoyed sharing carols with you. All classes have had parties during the week and are now ready for a break over the holidays. All the staff at Beechwood Primary School would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. See you all on Wednesday 7th January 2015.

    Last week at Beechwood Primary School ...
    Last week Reverend Fiona came into school to introduce advent in assembly. Children looked at the advent candles and understood when each of the 5 candles are lit during the festive period. During assembly children talked about what they like to do to prepare for Christmas. On Friday was had a very special performance by the Leeds East Primary Partnership Trust Choir. This was their first performance as a choir and children from across the trust schools worked well together to perform a series of Christmas songs. They are looking forward to performing at St James' Church next Saturday 13th December. Children are all busy in school preparing for Christmas, all classes have a Christmas performance, please look at the calendar to see the dates of these.
