It has been a busy few weeks in school. We welcomed visitors who are teachers at our link schools in South Africa and Ghana. The teachers spent time in all classes around school and children were able to ask them lots of questions to find out more about life in their country. We particularly enjoyed our welcome assembly, each year group performed a song to welcome them to our school. Last week we welcomed 11 children from Mayo College in India and their teacher. The boys had a very busy week last week and also have a busy week ahead as they are going on various visits with classes. We will have a special assembly on Thursday before they leave Beechwood. There are photographs on the international page of the website of these visits.

    Monday 1st June 2015

We hope that you all had a good half term break and are looking forward to the second half of the summer term at Beechwood. There are lots of exciting events planned for the summer term including visitors from South Africa, Ghana and India. There are also lots of events planned to raise money for Spirit Alive Week in July, we hope that you support these to make the week as successful as in previous years. The dates for these events are on the school website and if you have our app they will also show in your calendar. We also have a whole school reward day being planned at Temple Newsham in July.

Just a reminder about after school clubs. If your child was in a club in the first half of the summer term these have now stopped and new clubs will run during the second half of the summer term. Texts have been sent out confirming if your child has a place in a club. Most clubs are full and have a waiting list, if a space becomes available you will be informed.

This week Year 3 are going to Nell Bank which they are really looking forward to. Some children from Year 2 are also in a skipping competition on Monday.

It has been a very busy week at Beechwood Primary School. If you would you like to listen to their brilliant singing again please visit. http://www.elfm.co.uk/listen-again/sing-for-spring/ Well Done to everyone in the choir!

In assembly on Thursday, the children listened to Miss Hobson talk about her visit and we look forward to finding out more about this visit after the holiday. On Thursday, we had a special assembly to celebrate some achievements from within the term. Well Done to Year 3 who have participated in the school swimathon this term as they have all improved and increased the distance that they can swim. We also announced the winners of the egg competition. Well Done to everyone who decorated an egg and entered this in the competition, it was brilliant to see such a huge variety of eggs in the hall over the last few days. • Easter egg competition

    Thu 26 Mar 2015

This week in our assemblies, Reverend Fiona came in to school to speak to us about Easter. Children now all have a better understanding of why we have chocolate eggs at Easter time.

Next week in school we are going to have an Easter competition. This is just for fun and for children to join in with if they want to. Children can decorate an egg using any resources that they wish. Children may decide that they would like to make their egg into a character. We would also like parents to join in with this competition! As well as a competition for children we will be having another competition for parents.

All entries should be in school by the end of the day on Wednesday 1st April so that they can be judged and winners will be announced in assembly on Thursday 2nd. There will be a prize for the most creative egg in each class as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for parents.

We look forward to seeing your decorated eggs.

Last week at Beechwood Primary School

Year 2 really enjoyed their day at Temple Newsham for a den building workshop. Children thought about what it would be like to be an explorer having to make shelters to sleep in using different resources.

On Friday morning, children enjoyed learning about a solar eclipse and classes watched this on their classroom whiteboards.

Year 1, 2 and 3 had an assembly thinking about our link school in South Africa.

On Friday afternoon Beechwood Trust Choir enjoyed performing at Cross Gates Primary School with the Trust Choirs from Cross Gates, White Laith and Grange Farm. All four choirs rehearsed together and performed very successfully to Cross Gates School. On Monday 30th March the children will be performing again at ELFM in Seacroft. This will be at 3.30pm for a rehearsal and at 4.00pm to parents and carers. ELFM also plan to record the session to play on one of their shows.

This week Miss Hobson is in South Africa visiting our link school. Please read her blog on the blogging page on childrens page of the website to find out more about her visit.
